What are Y Strainers?

Y Strainer (or Y-type strainer) is a mechanical filtration device installed in a pipeline to remove unwanted solid particles from flowing fluids, whether liquid, gas, or steam. Its name comes from its Y-shaped design, where one branch houses the main flow, and the other contains the filter screen that traps debris.

Main Components

Filter Screen: Fine mesh or perforated plate that separates solids

Cover/Bonnet: Enables access for cleaning the screen

Gasket: Ensures leak-proof sealing

Drain/Blow-Off Port: Allows flushing debris without disassembly
